About Lipno nad Vltavou
Lipno nad Vltavou is a village of around 700 people, 776 metres up on the east shore of the Lipno reservoir in the Bohemian Forest. The original village was flooded when the dam was built, and a new resort grew in its place, so it has none of the old-town feel of Frymburk further along the lake. What it has is a marina, a beach, a large camp, the dam with its hydropower station, and the Lipno Treetop Walkway, reached by free bus, cable car or a signposted path of about a kilometre. The village hosted the 1967 canoe slalom world championships. Our homes are mostly for around five, nearly all with a garden and a fireplace, and almost none with a sauna.

Summer brings swimming, boating, cycling and ferries between lakeside towns. The Treetop Walkway keeps shorter hours in winter and its cable car stops, though the bobsleigh track runs all year. Downhill skiers cross the border to Hochficht. Rain is heavy in the Bohemian Forest, from about 800 mm a year, so check walkway hours and pack for wet weather.

Is Lipno nad Vltavou good for families?
Yes, especially in summer. There is a beach, a marina and a big camp, and the Treetop Walkway is among the most visited places in South Bohemia. A bobsleigh track also runs all year.
How do you reach the Treetop Walkway at Lipno nad Vltavou?
By free bus, by cable car, which does not run in winter, or on a signposted path of roughly a kilometre. Admission is charged and winter hours are shorter, so check before you set out.
Is Lipno nad Vltavou the same as Lipno lake?
No. Lipno is the reservoir, the largest water area in the Czech Republic and up to 42 km long. Lipno nad Vltavou is one village on its east shore, rebuilt as a resort after the original settlement was flooded.
Do homes in Lipno nad Vltavou have fireplaces?
Nearly all do, and nearly all have a garden. Almost none have a sauna, and none have a private pool, so evenings are for the fire rather than a wellness area.
Is Lipno nad Vltavou good for skiing?
Not directly. The village is a lakeside resort at 776 metres, so skiers drive over the Austrian border to Hochficht, and cross-country trails run through Šumava. The year-round bobsleigh track is the winter novelty in the village itself.
