Viganj suits windsurfers and couples wanting a pool base on western Pelješac, on the channel facing Korčula. The summer maestral wind that draws surfers can make it blowy, and Dubrovnik is a long drive away.
Viganj is a village of about 240 residents on the Pelješac channel, between Nakovana and Kućište, in the municipality of Orebić. It is known for windsurfing and regularly hosts competitions, helped by the summer maestral. A Dominican convent dating to 1671 stands in the village. Homes are small, mostly for two to four, tightly grouped, and nearly all have a private pool and a garden. Marked hiking paths up Sveti Ilija start from Viganj, and Orebić, with its captains' houses along the waterfront and boats to Korčula, is the nearest town.
The municipality's town, with a waterfront promenade, a maritime museum and Trstenica, its main beach.
Neighbouring village on the channel, and another spot for windsurfing.
Reached by passenger ferry from Orebić direct to the old town, or by car ferry to Dominče, 3 to 4 km away.
961 m peak above Orebić with views over Korčula, reached by marked paths from Viganj, Kućište and Orebić.
Dubrovnik and Split are the nearest airports. Orebić is about 112 km from Dubrovnik, roughly 90 minutes by car, and Viganj is in the same municipality. A ferry from Ploče to Trpanj shortens the drive from Split. A car is useful for getting around.
Summer is windsurfing season here, when the maestral is common and draws surfers to Viganj, and Trstenica beach in Orebić fills with summer crowds. Taxi boats from Orebić to Korčula run from June to September. Outside summer, check opening times for bars and cafes before you travel.
Yes. Viganj is known for it and regularly hosts windsurfing competitions, helped by the maestral, a wind common in summer. Check conditions before you book lessons or kit.
Go to Orebić and take the passenger ferry, which lands in Korčula old town, or the car ferry, which lands at Dominče 3 to 4 km away. Taxi boats also run from Orebić between June and September.
Fairly far. Orebić, the municipality's town, is about 112 km from Dubrovnik, some 90 minutes by car, and Viganj belongs to the same municipality, so allow a little more. Split is the other airport option, and a Ploče to Trpanj ferry shortens that route.
Orebić's main beach is Trstenica. For Viganj itself, ask about the nearest swim spot for your home. Nearly all homes here have a private pool, which makes the beach less of a deciding factor.
Yes. Marked paths to the summit of Sveti Ilija, 961 m, start from Viganj, Kućište and Orebić, and the top gives views over Korčula and the Adriatic. Take water and set off early in summer.
