Mošćenička Draga suits couples and families wanting a former fishing village below Učka, with two beaches and a small marina. The hilltop town of Mošćenice is a separate settlement above it.
Mošćenička Draga grew as the fishing port of the hilltop town of Mošćenice and was first mentioned in 1436. It is now a small resort, with a few hundred people in the village itself, two beaches, a small marina and walking paths. It lies south-west of Opatija, below Učka, whose highest peak, Vojak, reaches 1,396 metres. Our homes are spread over several kilometres, so check each address. They are mostly mid-sized, a minority have a private pool, few have a garden, and nearly all have air conditioning. Expect quiet evenings rather than organised entertainment.

Fly to Rijeka Airport on Krk, which has seasonal Ryanair flights from London Stansted. It is about 36 minutes by car to Opatija, with Mošćenička Draga to the south-west of Opatija. The airport shuttle to Opatija runs only three times a week, so a car is simpler.
Summer is the time for the two beaches and the marina, and Rijeka Airport's London flight is seasonal, so flights are easiest to find then. Outside summer, the walking paths and Učka's nature park are the draw. Check opening times for cafés and the marina before an off-season trip.
