Njivice suits couples and small families who want a low-key resort village on Krk, about ten minutes' drive from Rijeka airport. Our homes here are mostly compact apartments, so large groups and pool seekers should look at other towns.
Njivice is a small village of about 1,100 residents on the north-west coast of Krk, 6 km south of Omišalj. It began as a fishing village; resort development started in 1930 with the building of Hotel Luka, now the Hotel Jadran, and tourism is still what the place does. The D102, the island's north to south road, skirts the east side of the village. Our homes sit tightly together in and around the village. Most are one-bedroom apartments and houses for around four, many with a garden and nearly all with air conditioning. Private pools are rare. Beaches are the draw, with a very blue sea and plenty of shade.

Rijeka airport is on Krk near Omišalj, about 11 km or ten minutes by car from Njivice, with seasonal Ryanair flights from London Stansted. A shuttle runs to flight times but only if booked 24 hours ahead. The island has no railway, and a car is the best way to get around.
Summer is the main season. Spring or autumn is advised for those who cannot come in summer, with sea swimming in June, September and October, and a few brave swimmers from April to November. The north-east of the island is almost bare because of the strong bura wind, though Njivice sits on the opposite, north-west coast.

Fairly, yes. It is a village of about 1,100 people, once a fishing village and now mostly known for tourism, so it is a small resort rather than a nightlife town.
Pick Njivice for a compact village and quick airport access, and Malinska for a harbour sheltered from the bura. Both have the more frequent island bus links, and both sit on the western side of Krk.
