Tučepi suits couples and families after a quieter Makarska Riviera base, with a pebble beach almost 4 km long and Biokovo close by. The beach is pebble, not sand, and Split Airport is around an hour and a half away by car.
Tučepi is a village of around 1,800 people on the Makarska Riviera, about 5 km southeast of Makarska. The main beach carries the village name and runs almost 4 km, all pebble, and the coastal resort strip is about 4 km long. The homes are tightly grouped, mostly small, for two to four people, and all have air conditioning; nearly half have a private pool. Evenings in season bring summer events, grilled fish and local wine. Until the 1962 earthquake most people lived in scattered hamlets such as Gornji Tučepi on the lower slopes of Biokovo.
Town about 5 km northwest of Tučepi, on the same stretch of coast known as the Makarska Riviera.
Viewpoint at 1,200 metres altitude on Mount Biokovo, where the mountain's viewpoints offer a cooler escape from the coast in summer.
Cliff-and-forest-backed beach near Tučepi, reached on foot through the Osejava Forest Park.
Islands among the day trips that Tučepi works as a base for, together with Split, Trogir and Omiš.
Split Airport is the one to use, around an hour and a half from Tučepi by car or about three hours by bus via Split bus station. Hire a car for Biokovo, Nugal Beach and the coast road.
Swimming, the evening events and the grilled-fish restaurants are at their best in summer. Outside it the Biokovo viewpoints and the walk to Nugal Beach through the Osejava Forest Park still work as day outings, though sea swimming is a summer plan. Check restaurant opening times before a winter visit.
Pebble. The main beach shares the village name and is almost 4 km long. If you want sand, Tučepi is the wrong choice.
Yes. Tučepi is one of the quietest destinations on the Makarska Riviera, with mostly traditional tourism in private holiday houses and hotels. Makarska itself lies about 5 km to the northwest along the coast.
Around an hour and a half by car, and about three hours by bus via Split bus station. Hiring a car at Split is the easiest option, because the beaches, Biokovo and day trips all involve driving.
Visit the Biokovo Skywalk at 1,200 metres, ride the zip line of about 1 km above the village, walk to Nugal Beach through the Osejava Forest Park, or take day trips to Split, Trogir, Omiš, Brač and Hvar.
