Tisno suits couples and small groups who want a base on the strait between Murter island and the mainland. A short drawbridge joins the two halves of the village. The Garden, nearby, hosts yearly electronic music festivals, so check dates if you want a quiet summer week.
Tisno takes its name from the Croatian word for strait: the village sits either side of a channel about 20 metres wide that separates Murter from the mainland, with a short drawbridge across it. Around 1,200 people live here. It was first mentioned in 1474, during the Turkish invasion, when refugees fled here for shelter, and it was called Tijesno up to the 1981 census. The parish church of the Holy Spirit dates from 1548. Murter has many rocky beaches and several sandy ones, and its southwestern coast is mostly steep slopes broken by sandy coves. The homes are close together in the village.

Split Airport is around an hour and a quarter away by car. Buses exist but take more than four hours with changes, so hire a car. Once here, the drawbridge links the mainland half of Tisno with Murter.
Partly. Tisno lies on both sides of the narrow strait between Murter and the mainland, and a short drawbridge crosses the channel, which is only about 20 metres wide. Its southern part is on Murter itself.
It can be. The Garden, an area nearby, hosts yearly electronic music festivals with house and techno DJs. Light sleepers should check festival dates before booking a summer week.
