Pirovac is a small coastal town in Šibenik-Knin County, about 26 km from Šibenik, where most homes have a private pool. They are spread over a wide area, though, so check each one's position against the water and the centre.
Pirovac has around 1,600 residents in the municipality and was founded in the 15th century by refugees fleeing the Turks. What survives is modest and easy to see: the parish church of St George, restored in Baroque style in the 18th century, part of a defence wall from about 1505, and the remains of a 1st-century Roman villa at Ivinj. The islet of Sveti Stjepan holds Roman finds and the ruins of a Franciscan monastery abandoned in the early 1800s. The homes are scattered around the area, so some are close to the centre and others are a drive away. Most sleep five or more, and nearly all have air conditioning.
Around 25 minutes by car; narrow stone streets, St John's Fortress above the old town and the UNESCO-listed Cathedral of St James.
Known for its many waterfalls, plant and animal life, about 18 km north of Šibenik.
Island joined to the mainland by a drawbridge at Tisno; the Kornati National Park is managed from its main town.
Small islet tied to Pirovac's history, with Roman finds and the ruins of a Franciscan monastery.
Šibenik has no airport; Split Airport is about 50 km and Zadar Airport about 70 km from Šibenik. Pirovac is around 25 minutes by car from Šibenik, and several buses a day run to the city. A car is needed because the homes are spread around the area.
Pirovac is small, with under two thousand residents, so outside the summer months expect a quiet town and check which restaurants and cafés are open. Nearly all the homes have air conditioning for the hot months. Off-season suits the Roman villa at Ivinj, the parish church and the old defence wall, or day trips to Šibenik and Krka.
Yes. The municipality has about 1,600 residents, so expect a small coastal town rather than a resort. Šibenik, about 25 minutes away by car, is the bigger centre for a night out.
Most do, and nearly all have air conditioning. Many sleep eight or more, so Pirovac suits family groups. Gardens are less common, so check the listing if outdoor space matters.
Reasonably. It is about 26 km from the city, around 25 minutes by car, and several buses a day make the trip. Šibenik has the UNESCO-listed Cathedral of St James.
In small doses: the parish church of St George, part of a defence wall from about 1505, a Roman villa at Ivinj and Roman finds on the islet of Sveti Stjepan.
Choose Pirovac if a private pool matters, since most homes here have one. Murter is an island reached by a drawbridge at Tisno, and the Kornati National Park is managed from its main town.
