Katuni suits large groups who want a big home with a private pool in the Dalmatian hinterland, about an hour's drive from Split. Most homes here sleep eight or more. The sea is only a few kilometres away as the crow flies, but every beach day still means getting in the car.
Katuni is one of five villages in the municipality of Šestanovac, with 562 people at the 2011 census, in the Dalmatinska Zagora hinterland of Split-Dalmatia County. This is farming country: a strip of fertile fields along the left bank of the Cetina, a rugged ridge running parallel, vineyards and olive groves. A good part of the Cetina runs through Šestanovac in a deep canyon. The homes are spread over a few kilometres of countryside. Most are big, sleeping eight or more, and nearly all have a private pool, a garden and air conditioning. Evenings revolve around the house, or local dishes such as spit-roasted lamb and veal cooked under the peka.

The 101 km Cetina river cuts a deep canyon through Šestanovac municipality, the area's main natural sight.
The beach coast around Baška Voda, Brela and Makarska, a day out for when the pool starts to feel small.
Fly to Split; the airport, in Kaštela, has seasonal flights from London, Manchester and other UK airports. From Split the drive to Katuni takes about an hour and covers roughly 46 km. By bus you change at Omiš for Katuni Polje, over two hours in total, so hire a car.
About an hour by car, a drive of roughly 46 km. The bus is slower: Split to Omiš, then a local bus up to Katuni Polje, around two and a quarter hours in all.

Easily. Katuni belongs to Šestanovac municipality, where a good part of the Cetina flows through a deep canyon, and the river meets the sea at Omiš.
Not on foot. Šestanovac is only about 5 km from the sea as the crow flies, but the coast is a drive away; Omiš and the Makarska Riviera are the obvious beach trips.
