Kaštel Gomilica is one of the seven settlements that make up Kaštela, the town running along Kaštela bay between Trogir and Solin, under Kozjak mountain. Benedictine nuns from Split built it in the first half of the 16th century, and they put their monastery on Kaštilac, a small island now linked to the mainland by a stone bridge. The Romanesque church of St Cosmas and Damian is the other old building worth finding. About 4,700 people live here, so this is a lived-in place with its own football club rather than a resort. The homes sit close together within the settlement, and Split Airport lies in the western part of the same town.
