Supetar is the largest town on Brač, on the island's north side and 50 minutes by ferry from Split, and an easy base for families. Every home here has air conditioning and some have a private pool, but the best-known beach, Babin Laz, is pebble rather than sand.
Supetar is the largest town and administrative centre of Brač, on the northern part of the island. It keeps the feel of a small Mediterranean town, with stone streets and squares, and it began as a fishing village. The homes are grouped close to the town rather than scattered across the island. There are a dozen or so beaches and coves in Supetar, and Babin Laz, the best known, is pebble. The Church of the Annunciation in the centre dates from the 17th century and survived the great fire of 1792. The Olive path is a 6 km walking trail, and the Petrinović family mausoleum in the cemetery holds sculpture by Toma Rosandić. Check ferry timetables and opening times before an off-season visit.
