Splitska is a small harbour village on Brač, a quiet base for couples and families who want a private pool and a short drive to Supetar. It has no resort strip, and a car is needed for almost everything beyond the village.
Splitska is a village of a few hundred people on Brač, about 6 km from Supetar, the island's main town. It is one of the island's natural harbours, and it became the most important harbour for carrying Brač stone to Salona and the whole of Dalmatia. The original quarry lies a few hundred metres from the main road through the village, and a citadel built in 1577 stands in the centre of the village. The homes are spread around the village and its surroundings, and most have a private pool and air conditioning. Expect a few restaurants, shops and a post office, not a night out.
The island's main town, with a Baroque parish church and the Jadrolinija ferry to Split.
One of only two settlements on the island's south side, and home of the Zlatni Rat beach.
The island's tallest peak at 780 m, and the highest point of any of the Adriatic islands.
From Split, the Jadrolinija ferry to Supetar takes about 50 minutes, and Splitska is about 6 km from Supetar. A small ship also sails from Split to Splitska in summer. Brač Airport is on the island, about 25 km from the village. Bring or hire a car.
Yes, if you want a quiet village rather than a resort. Splitska has restaurants, shops and a post office, and most homes here have a private pool, but Supetar is the nearest proper town and you will drive to reach it.
Take the ferry from Split to Supetar, which takes about 50 minutes, then drive roughly 6 km. In summer a small ship also runs directly from Split to Splitska, so check the summer timetable before you book.
Stone. Romans settled the area to quarry it, and Brač limestone went into Diocletian's Palace in Split. The first quarry is a few hundred metres from the main road through the village.
Choose Bol if Zlatni Rat beach is the point of the trip, since it lies in Bol on the island's south side. Choose Splitska for a smaller, quieter harbour village close to Supetar.
