Povlja is a small harbour village on the east side of Brač, suited to quiet seaside stays for couples and small families. Beaches are stone, concrete and pebble rather than sand, and Zlatni Rat, one of Brač's best-known sights, is across at Bol.
Povlja has about 335 residents and sits in a deep natural harbour on the eastern side of Brač, in the municipality of Selca. The village has a couple of restaurants, and the beaches range from stone and concrete to tiny pebbles. Bird Harbour, the largest beach, is a protected pebble bay with showers that suits children; it was once a pier for loading quarry stone. The village is known for a 6th-century early Christian basilica and for the Charter of Povlja, an early Croatian text found at a Benedictine monastery. Homes are mostly small, sleeping two, all are air-conditioned, and few have a pool. Many locals rent out rooms, and demand is high, so book well ahead.
