Zinal is a mountain village at 1,670 metres at the far end of the Val d'Anniviers in Valais, ringed by peaks over 4,000 metres. It suits walkers and skiers who want a quiet village over a big resort. The ski area is shared with Grimentz, and Geneva airport is around two and a half hours away by car.
Zinal sits at the end of the valley, surrounded by the Weisshorn, Zinalrothorn, Dent Blanche and Matterhorn, at 1,670 metres. Tourism began there about 150 years ago, and before that the village's larch-wood houses were used to rest herds on the way to the high pastures. The homes sit in one tight group in the village. In winter the ski area runs from 1,600 to 2,900 metres and is shared with Grimentz, linked by a cable car about 3 km long and just over seven minutes. In summer the village is a base for long hikes, including Via Valais stages, mountain huts and the Lac d'Arpitettaz, as well as mountain biking and paragliding. It is a secluded place, so evenings are quiet.

Winter is the ski season, with the shared Zinal and Grimentz area running between 1,600 and 2,900 metres, a freeride area, a snowpark and an avalanche training centre. Summer is for hiking, mountain biking and paragliding, with the Sorebois mountain restaurant as a stop. Between the two seasons, check lifts and restaurants before you go.
