Szklarska Poręba is a ski resort on the Polish side of the Giant Mountains, with the SkiArena Szrenica lifts in the middle of town. Homes vary from small ones to some that sleep very large groups, and the weather in the range changes often.
Szklarska Poręba is a ski resort on the Polish side of the Giant Mountains, once called Schreiberhau. In the 19th century many Berlin manufacturers built holiday villas on this Silesian side of the range. The SkiArena Szrenica starts in the centre of town, with parking and restaurants at the lower station, and runs up the slopes of Szrenica and Łabski Szczyt. The homes sit close together in and around town, with a pool or sauna in many. In summer hikers head for the Polish-Czech Friendship Trail along the main ridge. Out of season, the town is quieter and the mountain weather changes quickly.

Szklarska Poręba is in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, on the northern side of the Giant Mountains, and the SkiArena lifts can be reached by car from the centre of town. A car is the easiest way to move between the homes and the slopes in winter.
Winter is the main season for skiing, and many areas of the range stay under snow for five to six months. Snow depths above three metres are not unusual. Summer brings hikers to the Polish-Czech Friendship Trail along the ridge. The weather in these mountains changes often, so pack for it.
