About Saint Jean de Monts
Saint-Jean-de-Monts sits between Notre-Dame-de-Monts and Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez on the western edge of the Vendée. Bathers have come to the beach since 1867, and the seafront has been restored with footpaths and cycle tracks. A long plantation of pines runs north to south along the coast and splits the town in two, and a 280-hectare forest planted under Napoléon III lies in the marshland. Frequent low tides leave a wide stretch of sand for walkers, fishermen and beach games, and a pier reaches out over the sea.
