Saint Pierre La Mer suits families and couples wanting a long fine-sand beach on the Aude coast, with La Clape hills behind. It belongs to the commune of Fleury and is in Aude rather than Hérault, so the nearest city is Narbonne.
Saint Pierre La Mer is a seaside resort in the commune of Fleury, in the Aude department of Occitanie, in the middle of the Gulf of Lion between the La Clape massif and the sea. Narbonne is about 20 km west, and the resort borders Narbonne-Plage at the harbour. The beach is a long stretch of fine sand, split in two by the rocky outcrop of the Roc de la Batterie, with several lifeguard posts. The Pissevaches ponds are used for sailing and kitesurfing, with a sailing school and a wakeboard cable, and part of the beach is for naturists. The homes sit close together, mostly small and sleeping around four, and many have a private pool.
Neighbouring resort with nearly 5 km of fine sand, a marina and a sailing school.
Coastal town about 14 km south-west of Saint Pierre La Mer, roughly 17 minutes by road.
A large hole filled with fresh water out in the garrigue, one of the sights around the resort.
The nearest city, about 20 km west of the resort.
Béziers Cap d'Agde Airport is one option, about 40 minutes by road. Public transport there is slow, taking around three hours with two bus lines, so hire a car.
The Tramontane, a cold, dry north-westerly, is frequent and strong on this coast. Dogs have been banned from the beach since summer 2022, which matters if you travel with a pet. Next door, Narbonne-Plage grows from around 1,200 residents to nearly 30,000 in summer, so book early for July and August and expect a far quieter coast outside it.
Aude. The resort belongs to the commune of Fleury, in the Aude department of Occitanie, about 20 km east of Narbonne, so it is not in the Hérault.
Yes. It is a long beach of fine sand, given as 6.5 to 8 km, split in two by the rocky Roc de la Batterie, with several lifeguard posts and a naturist section.
Not on the beach. The resort has banned dogs from it since summer 2022, so plan walks with a dog away from the sand.
Narbonne-Plage has nearly 5 km of sand, a 600-berth marina and has held a Blue Flag since 1988. Saint Pierre La Mer has the longer beach and the kite and wakeboard ponds.
Often. The Tramontane wind blows frequently and strongly on this stretch of the Gulf of Lion, and the Pissevaches ponds are used for kitesurfing and wakeboarding.
