Port Grimaud suits couples and small families who want a canal town base with fast boats to Saint-Tropez. It lies about 7 km west of Saint-Tropez and is mostly traffic-free. Most homes are small and few have a private pool, and roads to Saint-Tropez are prone to traffic in the tourist season.
Port Grimaud is a seaside town within the commune of Grimaud, created by the architect François Spoerry in the 1960s on former marshes of the river Giscle, on the bay of Saint-Tropez. Canals were cut through it in a Venetian manner, which is why it gets called the Venice of Provence, and the houses copy the fishermen's houses of Saint-Tropez. Most of the town's properties come with a boat berth, which is why boat owners like it. Spoerry also designed the church, which has stained glass by Victor Vasarely. The homes sit in one tight cluster, mostly with a single bedroom, and only a minority have a private pool or a garden. Off season, check which restaurants and boat services are running.

Toulon-Hyères is the nearest airport, about 1 hour 20 minutes by bus, though the bus runs only twice a day. Nice Côte d'Azur is about 1 hour 10 minutes by road. A car is useful for exploring beyond the boat routes.
Saint-Tropez, a boat ride away, has hot summers and mild winters, with July and August the warmest months and October the wettest. Its roads are prone to traffic problems in the tourist season. Each year at the end of September, the Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez regatta fills the bay.
