Tampere suits larger groups who want a sauna cottage with Finland's third-largest city and its public saunas close at hand. Nearly all homes have a sauna and many sleep eight or more. They sit outside the centre, though, so every sauna or restaurant evening in town means a drive.
Tampere is an inland city of about 244,000, between the lakes Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi, with the Tammerkoski river running through the city past old red-brick industrial buildings. It has held the title Sauna Capital of the World since 2018, with more than 50 public saunas, among them Rajaportti and Kuuma. A day in town can take in the Moomin museum, the art museums and a plate of mustamakkara, the local black sausage served with lingonberry sauce. The centre is walkable and served by buses and a tram. The homes are scattered outside the centre, so most evenings are spent at the cottage, with the city a short drive away for a meal or a public sauna.

Tampere-Pirkkala Airport is 13 km from the city and has direct flights from several European cities. From Helsinki Airport it is about 1 hour 45 minutes by car, or a little over two hours by train from Tikkurila. A car is the practical choice for cottages outside the centre.
