Mariánské Lázně suits couples who want a slow spa break among colonnades, mineral springs and forest. The homes here are small and mostly sleep two. Families or groups will find the choice tight, since none of the homes takes more than four.
Mariánské Lázně, Marienbad in German, is a spa town of around 14,000 people at about 580 metres, with around a hundred mineral springs in and around it. Its landmark is the 120-metre colonnade, where the water is sipped from spouted porcelain cups on the spa walk, with the Cross Spring at its northern end. Since 2021 the town has been part of the Great Spa Towns of Europe World Heritage Site. Edward VII opened its first golf course in 1905, and an Anglican church designed by William Burges, built in 1879, is now a concert hall. Most of the municipality lies in the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area. The homes are in the town itself.
Spa town 55 km to the north-east, famous for Becherovka, the liqueur named after its inventor, and served by two railway stations.
Third town of the West Bohemian spa triangle, sharing the 2021 World Heritage listing and with its own railway station.
Historic West Bohemian town 25 km to the north-west, where Wallenstein was killed during the Thirty Years' War.
Mariánské Lázně sits on three important railway lines and has one station with passenger service, so arriving by train works well. The homes are in town, so a car is optional, though it helps for day trips to Cheb, 25 km away, or Karlovy Vary, 55 km away.
Yes. On the spa walk along the colonnade the water is taken in small sips from a traditional spouted porcelain cup. Around a hundred mineral springs rise in and around the town, though only six are mainly used for cures.
It is. The town was inscribed in 2021 as one of the eleven Great Spa Towns of Europe, a listing it shares with Karlovy Vary and Františkovy Lázně, the other corners of the West Bohemian spa triangle.
There is, with a royal history: King Edward VII opened the town's first golf course in 1905, and the town is also known for its Royal Golf Club.
Not really. Homes here are compact, mostly one bedroom and sleeping two, and none takes more than four. Couples will find the best fit; check each listing for a garden, wifi and parking.
