Visiting Istria
The growth in low cost flights to Croatia has developed to give you a larger choice of airports to travel to your holiday villa in Istria. Pula is the largest airport with good flight links to the UK by low cost airlines and is also serviced by the national airline Croatia Airlines. Istria’s proximity to Slovenia and Italy allows greater choice of destination airport with many visitors choosing to fly to Ljubljana or Trieste and travelling by hire car or train to their holiday villa.

Culture and Heritage

The amphitheatre in Pula was erected during the reign of Emperor Vespasian during the 1st century being the largest ancient structure in Istria and one of the six largest roman amphitheatres in the world. In the warm summer evenings the arena becomes perfect for live music concerts, operas, ballets and film festivals.
Activity
Istria's mild climate offers a wide range of recreational activities throughout the whole year. Tennis was once the trademark sport of Istria with the region having 430 clay courts which can be played on all year round. Cycling is growing in popularity round the world with cycling holidays in Istria attracting many visitors to the area. On the entire peninsula there are about 60 biking trails covering nearly 2,600 kilometres, the Istrian tourist board has detailed maps of the cycling trails in the area.
Food and Drink
Istria offers a mouth watering range of 'Continental' gastro specialities, like the various pastas in wild game sauces or meals created from the top quality truffles. Prsut the Croatian smoked ham and sheep’s cheese with extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality.
Wine production in Istria increases every year as demand for the unique Croatian wines grows with the quality of wine produced. Try the white Malvazija or red Terana in Barrique whilst dining on locally sourced produce.

If you're familiar with Croatia, but haven't yet made your way up to its north-western corner, then don't waste any more time. Istria, lying in close proximity to Italy, Slovenia and Austria, has been subject to many cultural influences.
