The flight had not been long into it’s flight to Florida when it ran into complications and the decision to return to Gatwick and make an emergency landing. It is predicted that the passenger numbers will fall by 500,000 pax which will lead to the loss up to 500 on site jobs. This announcement of reduced routes and job losses follows BAA’s ‘Refusal to offer competitive cost base for more Ryanair growth.’

This announcement looks like it is part of Ryanair’s negotiations to gets an extension to its 5 year base agreement which will expire on Oct 2012 with BAA, but these negotiations could go on for some time as BAA looks for a buyer for Edinburgh airport after it is told to sell off one of it’s Scottish airport by the competition regulators.

Reports of drunken behaviour by the group of students aboard the ship which left over 1500 fellow passengers who were also aboard the ferry to France with their families and young children left scarred after fights broke out and male and female students exposed themselves.

The spokeswoman added: “The company deplores the behaviour of this group of students, who were clearly drunk before they boarded the ship.

“Customers and staff on board the ship were appalled by the students’ aggressive and lewd conduct, which should be stamped out by the authorities.”

Ryanair has called on the European Union Commission to act on this problem and prevent air traffic controllers from striking as this is causing huge losses across the travel industry each summer. Ryanair has confirmed in a new release on its site that strikes had caused 134 flights to b cancelled, with a further 450 flights delayed resulting in 88,000 Ryanair passengers having their flights delayed on Monday’

As one of the leading low cost airlines operating in Europe trying to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by offering flights that arrive and depart on time, strike action by airport staff out of the airlines control can put a serious dent in the reputation of the airline as many passengers will see the delays caused by the airline and not due to the strike action of the airport services.

The question is being asked of the EU Commission to follow suit of the US where they have laws in place that prevent air traffic controllers from striking and keep the industry moving.
